Gene
Piotrowski Memorial Grove
Starting this fall work will be occurring on Mill Creek
Lane at Myrtle Point Park. Land will be prepared near the
end before reaching the creek on the left side. This area of
tangled vines and small shrubs has a mix of invasive plants
that is making it difficult for native species to prosper.
Clearing these will allow native species the opportunity to
thrive and a variety of native shrubs and trees have been
selected for planting.
Using trees
from the Department of Natural Resources program Treemendous
Maryland, a group of native trees and shrubs was picked and
a plan drawn up. Below are two pages from the Forest
Management Plan that show the conceptualization of the
memorial grove. We envision it as a place to reflect on and
be a part of the natural environment.

Owl Prowl
Friday, December 6 and 13, 2013
8 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Join us in our annual attempts to find owls at
the Park. We have three species that nest and live year
round in our area. All three have been heard or seen at the
Park. An owl prowl is an attempt to lure a bird to respond
and possibly show itself by playing calls, with a mechanical
device, (kind of like a duck call) or by using your voice.
We ask that people dress in quiet clothes (please no snow
suits) bring a flash light, and be prepared to stand around
for a while and really listen to what is going on around
you.
