Myrtle Point Park has been the subject of several development proposals over the past four decades. Links on the right will take you to maps showing each proposal at that particular time. The links are listed in reverse chronological order as is the history below.
St. Mary's County's current zoning map dated May 2002 (image not available) shows Myrtle Point Park as a planned development, "PDR-2.83". This designation dates back to "Resolution ZPUD #83-0130 Putuxent River Farms" which was approved on November 29, 1983.
The PDR zoning designation is the subject of controversy and county planning staff prepared zoning maps for the public hearing in February of 2002 on which the Park is mapped as rural preservation district, (RPD). Although no comment was made on this issue, the county commissioners changed this zoning designation back to PDR, (adopted 13 May 2003).
Hanover Run residential subdivision was proposed in 1991. This project ran into difficulties when the federal government froze the assets of the landowner, Route 347 Realty Corporation.
